The Scale That Made Me Care About Scales: BOOKOO Themis Ultra Review

Bookoo Themis Ultra

I never thought much about my scale. Grinder, kettle, dripper, those got all my attention and all my budget. The scale was just the thing sitting underneath doing its one job: to tell me the number. That changed the moment I started brewing with the BOOKOO Themis Ultra.

Let me be upfront about where I am coming from. I am a home brewer, not a café running a five figure setup. Every piece of gear I buy has to earn its place on my counter. So when BOOKOO sent the Themis Ultra over for a review, I did not expect a scale to change how I brew. It did.

This is not a spec sheet review. Here is what actually shifted in my daily brewing once this thing landed under my dripper.

First impression, it looks nothing like a coffee scale

My first reaction when I unboxed it was that it reminded me of a Nothing phone. Clean lines, that layered, slightly industrial look but minimal at the same time not screaming for attention. It is a small thing but it matters when the scale lives on your counter and not in a drawer. It has a small footprint, small enough to use for both pour over and home espresso machines without it protruding out the drip tray.

Waterproof, and I mean it

I have killed more than one scale by being careless with water. A splash from rinsing a dripper, a pour that overflowed, that is usually enough to end a cheap scale's life. The Themis Ultra is IP67 rated, one less than your iPhone, which means you can rinse it, dunk it, splash it, and it does not care. For someone who brews daily and is not always careful about wiping every drop, not that I am careless or leave my brewing station messy but this feature alone justifies the purchase because accidents or mishaps can take place.

The modes actually change how you brew, not just how you measure

This is where the scale stopped being a scale and became part of my technique.

Ratio mode does the math for you in real time. You set your ratio, pour, and the scale tells you exactly where you stand against it. Simple, but it means I stopped guessing and started actually hitting the recipes I wanted to repeat.

Flow mode was the real surprise. It shows your pour rate live, and once you start watching it you realize how much your pouring technique actually affects extraction. I always knew flow rate mattered in theory. Watching the number move in real time while I pour is what made it click. It has genuinely made me a more deliberate brewer, not because someone told me to slow down, but because I could see the effect of speeding up.

Auto mode is my favorite for one very honest reason: I forget to start the timer at times. I get caught up watching the bloom, checking my grind, adjusting my pour, and by the time I remember the timer, the bloom is already done and my numbers are off. Auto mode starts timing the second the first drop hits the brewer. No more mental math trying to backtrack how many seconds I missed.

The app is the feature I did not know I needed

Connecting the scale to the BOOKOO N app is, without exaggeration, my favorite feature on this thing. Every brew gets logged, weight and flow visualized as it happens, and you can go back and look at past brews to see what you actually did differently on the one that tasted better. As a home brewer and a QC wannabe, this is the closest thing I have to that kind of feedback loop. It turns brewing from a one off moment into something you can actually track and improve on.

I went into this expecting to write about a scale. What I got was a tool that changed how seriously I take one of the most overlooked pieces of my brew setup. You do not need to spend café money to brew with more control. The Themis Ultra proved that to me, and it is staying under my dripper for good.
