What I’m Brewing!

My primary way of brewing coffee at home is using the V60, Chemex, and the Aeropress. I also like to change from time to time and opt for a classic French Press or a Mokapot. I have a code when it comes to picking up coffee, never buy from the same roaster twice. This might seem odd to you but there’s been so many options lately that we’re spoilt for choice.

Yes, I’ll eventually come back to my favorite roasters but I also want to try what others have to offer. I don’t want to miss out. If possible, I always try the beans at a cafe or at the roastery itself before picking it up. Why? Because I want to be sure of what I’ll be brewing at home. What do I look for exactly?

I’ll always buy two bags of coffee which differ from each other in terms of origin, process, and varietal. One serves as my daily driver, weekdays before heading out to work. This will almost always be a traditional washed processed, clean and crisp. One is never enough of course and I’ll also need something special around for the weekend to treat myself.

This has varied from multiple micro lots, sometimes a Cup of Excellence, and lately it has been one of those extended fermented processed lots which is trending right now. When it comes to buying coffee, don’t make the mistake of picking up so much that you wont be able to finish. It’s very easy to get tempted to try different beans. There was a time last year, during the peak WFH days when I actually bought 4-5 bags at once which I didn’t end up finishing.

The choices are endless in the UAE and you have access to not only the local coffee roasters, some international roasters have also found their way to the Emirates. I’ll regularly post about all the coffee I am brewing at home in this section, mainly filter of course.

But, what about espresso? This is something I ask myself everyday. I know it’s only a matter of time. A few home espresso aficionados have advised me against me, but I’m determined to join the big league. Need to master the art of pouring rosettas.

So until then, I hope you enjoy this new addition to theneedforcoffee - What I’m Brewing!
